On 7 January 2026, Mr Daryl Ng, Chairman of the Hong Kong–ASEAN Foundation, hosted the ASEAN community to lunch to welcome the new year.

We were delighted to welcome Consuls-General from ASEAN member states: Ms Lim Kim Suan (Brunei Darussalam), Mr Ammala Saengchonghack (Laos), Mr Muzambli Markam (Malaysia), Ms Phoo Pwint Ko Ko (Myanmar), Mr Romulo Victor M Israel Jr (the Philippines), Mr Eric Teo Boon Hee (Singapore), Mr Chaturont Chaiyakam (Thailand), Mrs Le Duc Hanh (Vietnam); Mrs Fithonatul Mar'ati (Acting Consul-General of Indonesia) as well as distinguished guests and partners, including Mr Nicholas Ho, Commissioner for Belt and Road of the HKSAR Government; Mr Thomas Jefferson Wu, JP, Convenor of the Foundation's Advisory Council; and Advisory Council members Mr Daniel Fung, Dato' Seri Cheah Cheng Hye, and Ms Judy Chen.

The participation of Dr António Ramos da Silva, Delegate of Timor-Leste to the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), holds special meaning following the accession of Timor-Leste as the 11th member state of ASEAN. Guests enjoyed a thoughtfully curated menu featuring Malaysian, Filipino, and Timorese cuisine as well as meaningful exchanges.
