In 1993, amidst the raging civil war in Somalia, the United Nations deployed peacekeeping troops to assist the country with reconstruction. During a U.S. military operation targeting a warlord, a Black Hawk helicopter was shot down by a rocket-propelled grenade. United Nations forces, including troops from the United States, Pakistan and Malaysia, rushed to rescue possible survivors. This incident was depicted in Ridley Scott's 2001 film Black Hawk Down, which primarily focused on the U.S. military and overlooked the crucial roles played by Pakistani and Malaysian troops. Malbatt: Misi Bakara addresses this oversight by vividly portraying the nail-biting operation with remarkable realism while capturing the diverse personalities of the characters involved. Billed as the highest-budget film ever produced in Malaysia, Malbatt: Misi Bakara demonstrates that creating war movies with compelling action scenes is not exclusive to Hollywood.
